DSC_1851 is OK. It opens and thumbnails work for all programs that support Nikon's NEF format.
DSC_1854_Corrupt is damaged. IMatch & IrfanView seem to work fine with the image. Nikon View and Photoshop 7.0.1 have problems with it. Neither will open the file. Photoshop displays a thumbnail, Nikon View does not.
Neither image was rotated and are in their original condition except for some EXIF, IPTC, file date and off-line cache stuff I did with IMatch. Both images had the same routines run on them.

DSC_1854_Virgin is the ORIGINAL file (fortunately I have backups) and
works fine.
This is what the file comparison utility in MS Word 2000 showed as the difference between the 1854_Virgin and 1854_Corrupt files:
In Word Format: Virgin vs. Corrupt.doc
In Text Format: Virgin vs. Corrupt.txt
